Parks & Rec presents annual report

The Maryville City Council heard the annual Maryville Parks and Recreation Department presentation during last night's meeting.

Parks Director Jeff Stubblefield says his department is working with a 1.5 million dollar budget.

"The way I look at Parks & Recreation is that if we break even, that's great.  If we make a little bit of money, that's ok.  Our goal is to try to keep our expenses down so that we can provide quality programs and services for the least amount as possible."

Stubblefield says the budget also includes costs for the formation of Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

"You don't know where you are going unless you have a plan.  So this master plan will help develop, first it'll do a survey of the patrons to see 'are we providing the right programs, do we have the parks where they need to be'. The levels of service that we're providing, our fee structure and our staff structure, and all that.  We're looking forward to getting that process started."

The Maryville City Council also heard a request for funds from the Maryville Public Art Committee. The Council will meet on Monday, September 30th to approve their 2020 fiscal year budget.
